Snickerdoodles


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar (to roll dough in)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (to roll dough in)

Directions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400ºF.
  2. Mix sugar, butter, and shortening in a large bowl with a hand mixer.
  3. Add eggs and mix together with hand mixer until creamy.
  4. Mix flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt together in a medium mixing bowl.
  5. Add flour mixture to the bowl with the sugar, butter and egg mixture.
  6. Mix with a wooden spoon until thoroughly combined. (Chill in fridge or freezer for a few minutes, if time allows.)
  7. Shape dough into 1 ½-inch balls.
  8. Mix 2 tablespoons sugar and the 2 teaspoons cinnamon in a small bowl for rolling balls in.
  9. Roll balls in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  10. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  11. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set.
  12. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.
