Cherry-Hazelnut Steel-Cut Oats

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups steel-cut oats
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ⅔ cup dried sweet cherries
  • ¼-½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 5 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ¼ cup chopped hazelnuts

Directions

  • Combine the first 3 ingredients in a medium saucepan (for a creamier version, use half water and half milk); bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes or until desired consistency, stirring occasionally. Halfway through cooking time, stir in the cherries and cinnamon.
  • Remove from heat. Stir in sugar and 2 tablespoon nuts. Place 1 cup oatmeal in each of 6 bowls; sprinkle each serving with 1 ½ teaspoon nuts;
